Welcome to Naval Medical Readiness Training Center Sigonella
 
Sigonella is a 22-bed community hospital near the city of Catania, south of Mount Etna, on the island of Sicily. The hospital is located on NAS1, 10-15 minute drive from NAS II and the accompanied housing development Marinai. The facility opened on January 28th, 1993. Branch clinics of U.S. Naval Hospital Sigonella include the Flight Line Clinic on NAS II, Branch Medical Clinic Bahrain, and Branch Clinic Souda Bay in Greece. The hospital is accredited by The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations. 
 
The hospital is a 98,000 square foot facility. Average yearly workload is approximately 35,000 outpatient visits, 300 admissions, and more than 70 births. The hospital features a 24/7 Emergency Department with a 15-bed inpatient unit including obstetric capabilities.  The hospital has a working relationship with network community hospitals to transfer higher acuity patients when more resources are necessary to meet the patient's medical needs.
 
Advanced radiological services have played an important role in the Sigonella community by providing computerized tomography, ultrasound, fluoroscopy, and the ability to do upper and lower gastrointestinal tests and X-rays. The Radiology Department is accredited by the American College of Radiologists.
 
The Navy designated Naval Hospital Sigonella as the Defense Department's frozen blood depot for the European Theater. The laboratory provides extensive support to the Fleet by providing blood products and monitoring regulatory statues for the medical clinics in Souda Bay and Bahrain. The Laboratory is accredited by the College of American Pathologists.
 
NMRTC Sigonella offers a variety of services including Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, General Surgery, Mental Health, Emergency Medicine, Labor and Delivery, Pediatrics, Laboratory, Immunizations, Anesthesiology, Aviation Medicine, Occupational Health and Preventive Medicine, Audiology, Nutrition, Substance Abuse Counseling Center (SACC), Wellness and Health Promotion, Optometry, Physical Therapy, Social Work, Pharmacy, Radiology, Radiation Health, Primary Care, Military Sick-call, and Education Development Intervention Services (EDIS).
