Capt. Tammy E. Servies

Commanding Officer, U.S. Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command

Captain Tammy E. Servies is a native of Hammond, Indiana and graduated from the University of Chicago with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology in 1998. She was commissioned as an Ensign in the United States Navy in May of 1999 and graduated from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS) with a Doctor of Medicine degree in 2003. She completed her internship in General Surgery at Naval Medical Center San Diego in 2004 and went on to complete Flight Surgery training in Pensacola, Florida in July of 2005. In 2013, she completed a residency in Public Health and General Preventive Medicine and earned her Master of Public Health from USUHS.

 In 2005, she reported to Naval Health Clinic Fallon, Nevada as the Naval Air Station Fallon base flight surgeon and Division Officer for Aviation Medicine. In 2009, she joined Patrol Squadron 46 as Aviation Medicine Department Head for her second flight surgery tour, deploying in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom, and Operation New Dawn. Following residency completion, she served as Director of Threat Assessment at Navy Environmental and Preventive Medicine Unit SIX at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam in Hawaii. During this tour, she led an international and joint service team in planning 100 medical engagements for Pacific Partnership in four countries in 2014 and 2015. She also taught the Public Health Emergencies course for the Defense Institute for Medical Operations (DIMO) in Cambodia and Thailand.

She then served as Associate Program Director for the General Preventive Medicine Residency at USUHS. There, she created a unique outbreak investigation course, directed or taught 10 additional courses, secured USUHS medical student participation in Pacific Partnership, and served as a track chair for the 2018 Asia Pacific Military Health Exchange in Xi’an, China. As an Associate Professor, she remains active at the University, teaching at Operation Bushmaster annually. She then served as Officer in Charge of Navy Environmental and Preventive Medicine Unit SEVEN in Rota, Spain, where her team was integral in the Navy’s fight against COVID-19 in Europe and Africa as well as ensuring day-to-day Force Health Protection of Navy and Marine Corps personnel throughout the region. She also led her team in providing critical health and safety recommendations for evacuee camp development at Naval Station Rota in support of Operation Allies Refuge.

Her personal awards are a Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (2 awards), Joint Services Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (2 awards), Army Commendation Medal, and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (3 awards). She is a Fellow of the American College of Preventive Medicine, an Associate Professor at USUHS, and a lifetime member of the Association of Military Surgeons of the United States.
