Oral Maxillofacial Laboratory Technician “C” School
The Oral Maxillofacial Laboratory Technician “C” School is located aboard the Navy Support Activity, here in Bethesda, Maryland. The school is hosted by the Naval Postgraduate Dental School (NPDS), which is a directorate of the Naval Medical Leader & Professional Development Command (NML&PDC) Branch Campus; and through a support agreement with the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC). NML&PDC is Branch Campus to the Navy Medicine Forces Support Command (NMFSC), located in San Antonio, Texas.
Dental Maxillofacial Laboratory Technician “C” School provides instructions in the handling of prosthodontic materials and equipment as well as special materials and equipment for making extra-oral facial prostheses. The student will be exposed to fabrication techniques for surgical splints and stents, and somato prostheses, facial prostheses, cranial implants, soft tissue implants, maxillary obturators for acquired and congenital defects, speech bulbs, mandibulectomy prostheses, burn splints and prostheses for patients exposed to radiation therapy. Upon graduation students are awarded the Navy Enlisted Classification Code L38A and are only assigned to military treatment facilities.
