In 2022, Naval Medical Readiness Logistics Command (NMRLC), Cheatham Annex, Williamsburg, VA, was realigned in the logistics community and fleeted up to become an Echelon IV command. Two Detachments, NMRLC Detachment Fort Detrick, MD, and NMRLC Detachment Kaiserslautern, Germany, were renamed and are now direct reports to NMRLC.
Naval Ophthalmic Support and Training Activity was disestablished and became a new reporting directorate of NMRLC. It was also renamed to NMRLC NORA Yorktown Williamsburg, VA.
NMRLC owns the production facilities that performs various missions and functions while also putting into place foundational processes for future mission requirements. NMRLC provides support to Combatant Command (COCOM) by supplying the right medical resources as well as Civil Engineering Support Equipment (CESE) at the right time and anywhere in the world through configured expeditionary medical logistics products tailored to meet clinical missions based, in part, on COCOM requirements.
The Operational Forces Support Directorate at NMRLC Detachment Fort Detrick, directly supports Fleet Forces, Type Commanders, and other stakeholders ashore and afloat in managing the medical capabilities of each operational unit or platform through the logistics and technical data management of materiel contained within their Authorized Medical Allowance Lists (AMAL) and Authorized Dental Allowance Lists (ADAL).
NMRLC Detachment Fort Detrick came into existence after the realignment on 13 May 2022. It provides United States Fleet Forces Command, United States Pacific Fleet Command, Military Sealift Command (MSC), and other operational customers with Class VIII materiel (medical and dental supplies and equipment), clinical engineering technical support for medical equipment, deployable platform allowance configurations, medical logistics business processes and health care information technology system solutions.
(NMRLC Detachment Kaiserslautern supports U.S. Army Medical Materiel Center - Europe, (USAMMC-E) as the Theater Lead Agent for Medical Materiel. It provides life cycle management of Class VIII medical material; clinical and bio-medical engineering of medical equipment; clinical advisory and consultation; optical fabrication; assemblage of sets, kits, and outfits; reconstitution of major and minor medical assemblages, and supply chain training of medical logisticians in the United States European Command (EUCOM), United States Central Command (CENTCOM), and United States African Command (AFRICOM) theater of operations. The NMRLC Detachment Team leads USAMMC-E’s Customer Support Division (CSD) and specializes in providing its customers with medical logistics support and training across the full spectrum of military operations to EUCOM, CENTCOM, AFRICOM, and United States Special Operations Command Europe (SOCEUR) to include all areas in 5th and 6th Fleets.
NMRLC NORA Yorktown Directorate - The Navy Optical Fabrication Enterprise, led by NMRLC NORA, consists of 14 Optical Fabrication labs located at various Military Treatment Facilities (MTFs) throughout the United States and overseas. NORA has a long and successful history of supporting warfighters globally dating back to World War II. The Navy Appropriation Act of 1942 established the ophthalmic program and authorized funds to issue prescription eyewear to Navy and Marine Corps personnel serving abroad. Naval Medical Forces Atlantic, NMRLC’s upper echelon, chartered a work group to review the overall Navy Optical Fabrication Enterprise and optimize operation for best efficiency and mission execution.
