Funding: Unit funded.

Purpose: Provides medical personnel (HM-L03A/8404) and Medical Officers assigned to the Fleet Marine Force (FMF) or who are in FMF augmentation billets, DoD personnel, and other US and foreign agencies the knowledge and skills needed to support units in a winter wilderness combat environment.

Scope: The training includes lectures on various medical and technical problems common to winter mountainous environments. Field evolutions include snowshoeing, cold weather sustainment, and casualty evacuation.

Target Audience: Priority: Active Duty and Reserve Navy L03A Corpsmen or other Joint or Allied equivalent medical assets operating in support of Ground Combat Elements. Secondary: Any other NEC Corpsmen, open to Marines who completed Combat Life Saver/Tactical Combat Casualty Care training, and other operational non-medical personnel and Medical Staff Officers as course capacity allows.

Physical Conditioning: The course is held in a physically and mentally demanding mountainous environment. Elevation of training ranges from 6,500 to 9.500 ft. Students will be required to conduct long range movements over mountainous terrain with 50 lb packs. Outstanding cardiovascular fitness is required. A passing score on the Marine Corps Physical Fitness Test must be achieved within the first three days of the course to continue training.

Send pdf version of the signed nomination letter, via encrypted email, to the NMOTC Operational Medicine Short Course Coordinator at: usn.pensacola.navmedoptracmdpns.list.nmotc-orcoord@health.mil. A PRIMS print-out of the most recent PRT results must be included with the nomination letter. Result of "Outstanding" or above is required to attend this course.
