Flight Medic (SMT/NEC L00A)

The purpose of this program is to provide selected medical enlisted personnel with the knowledge and skills required to conduct enroute care. This includes patient assessment, basic and advanced lifesaving interventions, in-flight emergency and critical care transportation to stabilize and/or treat patients independent of a medical officer from rotary and/or tilt wing aircraft.

Scope

Course includes the skills and knowledge necessary to care for a patient up to 24 hours under a full spectrum of environments independent of a medical officer. Graduates will have the capability to identify and utilize various aircraft systems, medical equipment, conduct patient turnover, and perform radio communications.

Prerequisites

  • Paygrade E1-E6

  • OTHER To be awarded NEC HM-L00A must complete Naval Aircrew Candidate School (NACCS C-050-1500); Flight Medic Course (B-305-1101). Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape (SERE, A-2D-4635); Fleet Replacement Squadron training (FRS, D-050-3110); and billet dependent attend Field Medical Service Tech (B-300-0013).
  • OTHER Minimum security clearance requirement for government computer email/workstation/system access during training. Certified copy of JPAS record confirming valid security clearance of NACLC with SECRET eligibility or letter from Security Manager confirming pending upgrade/renewal for NACLC investigation with SECRET eligibility. Public Trust investigations with FAVORABLE eligibility does NOT meet the requirement for system access as specified by SENAV M-5510.30 series. Upgrade for clearance eligibility must be initiated before candidate attends training.
  • OTHER ALL SMT candidates must complete AIRCREW INDOC CLASS 3 TRAINING. Candidates must also complete a series of online prerequisite courses. Access to these online courses will be granted two months prior to the class. Request for prerequisite online course must be sent usn.pensacola.navmedotcnamifl.list.nami-fmc-staff@health.mil.
  • OTHER REQUIRED ENCLOSURES TO NAVPERS 1306/7: [1] Commanding Officer (CO) endorsement letter which must address the candidate's technical or professional competence, demonstrated or potential leadership ability, general attitude, and motivation. COs are responsible for verifying all information. [2] Copy of current American Red Cross (ARC) and Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider Certification [3] Copy of individual's PRIMS report to include current HY/WT and or BF standards. Candidates must report for training within BCA standards. Candidates must have participated in and passed most recent command PFA cycle and not failed 1 of the last 4 PFA(s) preceding assignment to school. Medical waivers on part or all portions of the most recent PFA shall be addressed. Any PFA failure between time of selection for school and date of class convene will be disqualifying. Applicants must meet medical, fitness, and security requirements as prescribed in MILPERSMAN 1220-010 Aircrew Program. Failure to maintain worldwide assignability during or after "C" school will be justification for administrative separation per MILPERSMAN article 1900-120.
  • OTHER REQUIRED ENCLOSURES TO NAVPERS 1306/7 (continued): [4] Candidates are required to a Navy Aircrew Class 2 Physical for rotary wing. [5] Candidates must have current up chit DD 2992 - Medical Recommendation for Flying with required enclosures per MANMED Chapter 16. [6] Physical qualification letter from Navy Personnel Command - PERS 404E.
  • OTHER Candidates shall not have a record of conviction by any court-martial or non-judicial punishment (NJP) during the 18 months preceding assignment to school. Any civilian criminal court convictions, court-martial conviction or NJP between times of selection for school and date of class convene could be disqualifying.
  • OTHER A copy of the NAVPERS 1306/7 and the ORIGINAL aviation medical examination with required enclosures MUST be forwarded to Naval Aviation Medical Institute (NAMI), Physical Qualifications Department via AERO and adjudicated prior to submitting application package to HM "C" Detailer. The letter of approval from NAMI must accompany application to detailer. The package to the detailer must be scanned and submitted in PDF format via email to pers-407cschoolpkgs@navy.mil. Ensure PDF file name is last name of the Sailor and the NEC in which applying.

Flight Medic (non-SMT, CASEVAC)

The purpose of this program is to provide selected medical enlisted personnel with the knowledge and skills required to conduct enroute care. This includes patient assessment, basic and advanced lifesaving interventions, in-flight emergency care, and critical care management to treat patients independent of a medical officer from rotary and/or tilt wing aircraft.

REQUIRED ENCLOSURES must include: [1] Nomination Package Checklist [2] Commanding Officer's endorsement letter [3] Copy of the American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider card [4] PRIMS report including HT/WT and/or BF standards. Candidates must report for training within BCA standards. Candidates must have participated in and passed most recent command PFA cycle and not failed 1 of the last 4 PFA(s) preceding assignment to school. Medical waivers on part or all portions of the most recent PFA shall be addressed. Any PFA failure between time of selection for school and date of class convene will be disqualifying. Applicants must meet medical, fitness and security requirements as prescribed in MILPERSMAN 1220-010 Aircrew Program. [5] Current DD Form 2992 - Navy Aircrew Class II Physical for rotary wing. [6] Physical qualification letter from Navy Personnel Command PERS-404E. [7] Naval Survival Training Institute qualification letter indicating completion of NON AIRCREW INDOC CLASS 3 (including V-22 platform training) or refresher training, as applicable.
  • OTHER Candidates shall not have a record of conviction by any court-martial or non-judicial punishment (NJP) during the 18 months preceding assignment to school. Any civilian criminal court convictions, court-martial conviction or NJP between times of selection for school and date of class convene could be disqualifying.
  • OTHER Candidate's projected rotation date (PRD) must not be within 24 months of nomination. Candidates will be granted access to online pre-course online medical academic work once the nomination package is accepted by the schoolhouse and the student has a seat in the course. All online academic work must be completed prior to attending the course.
  • OTHER Commanding Officers are responsible for verifying all information. The Commanding Officer's endorsement must address the candidate's technical or professional competence, demonstrated or potential leadership ability, and general demeanor.
