Aerospace Medical Technician (NEC 8406)

The purpose of this program is to train in the basic knowledge and skills to administratively assist Naval Flight Surgeons and support their role as aircraft mishap investigator.

Scope

Course includes advanced anatomy and physiology of the ear, nose, throat, sinuses, eye, and circulatory and respiratory systems; administrative and clerical procedures relative to aviation medicine; instructor training for fleet in-service programs; and aeromedical aspects of the flight environment. Refer to NEC Manual (NAVPERS 18068).

Prerequisites

• Paygrade E1-E5.
• Rate HM.
• Graduate of B-300-0010, HM BASIC.
• Obligated service per MILPERSMAN.
  Submit package to NAVPERS 1306/7, including: 
  [1] Copy of performance evaluations for the past 3 years.
  [2] Copy of all training certificates and/or transcripts, if applicable.
  [3] Candidates shall not have a record of conviction by any court-martial or nonjudicial  punishment (NJP) during the 18 months preceding assignment to school.
  [4] Copy of individual's PRIMS report to include current HT/WT and/or BF standards.
  [5] Copy of NAVMED 1300/1, DD Form 2807-1 per SECNAVINST 6120.3 series.
  [6] Copy of a complete operational suitability screening per MILPERSMAN article 1300-800 confirming
  worldwide assignability for potential assignments with the Fleet Marine Forces, Forces Afloat, isolated units and overseas duty.
  [7] A letter of from member's Command Master Chief/Senior Enlisted Leader addressing the candidate's technical or professional competence, demonstrated or potential leadership ability, general attitudes and motivation, and assessment of worldwide assignability.
  [8] Commanding Officer endorsement addressing the candidate's technical or professional competence, demonstrated or potential leadership ability, general attitudes and motivation, and assessment of worldwide assignability.
  [9] High Year Tenure (HYT): E-3 and below candidates must submit a copy of latest advancement exam profile sheet, if exam PNA'd, to reflect eligibility to attain required obligated service.
