ASTC Patuxent River is a detachment of the Navy Medicine Operational Training Command, NAS Pensacola FL serving as the Training Agent for Aviation Survival Training and the subject matter experts on all military operational medicine.
ASTC Patuxent River provides and meets the aviation survival and safety requirements of all Naval Aviation and DoD activities. Through didactic classroom or squadron lectures, simulator devices and a curriculum that emphasizes hands-on exposure to survival skills, we offer the best survival training available to the Fleet. NAS Patuxent River is located at the mouth of the Patuxent River. The station overlooks the picturesque Chesapeake Bay and occupies approximately 7,800+ acres on Cedar Point.
ASTC Patuxent River strongly encourages FLIGHT SUITS as the uniform of the day for all aviation personnel. This is due to the physical and environmental demands of the survival training. However, Marine Corps utilities or Service Class "C" uniforms are always permitted. Aviators and aircrew are strongly encouraged to bring their own torso harness for Parachute Training.
Water Survival Students must bring a (modest) swim suit or shorts and a towel. It is highly recommended that students bring a spare t-shirt and socks, if preferred, to be worn with pool issue flight equipment. Students who wear contact lenses are encouraged to bring a contact lens kit for removal of lenses during water training. Swim goggles are not authorized for any water testing evaluation.
Students are strongly advised to bring a mid-morning snack on Water Survival training days since there is no food available. All Physiology Classes normally begin at 0700 sharp, unless otherwise directed. PLEASE BE AT THE ASTC No Later than 0700 for Medical Screening and Record Checks.
NOTE! Please be on time. Students reporting AFTER the start time of classes may not be eligible to complete a full qualification on that day, and will have to reschedule and return on another day to make up missing elements. All students are required to have a medical "Up-Chit" (DD 2992), and a class 3 swim qualification prior to attending our classes. If students do not have the required medical "Up-Chit" (DD 2992) or class 3 swim qualification prior to attending our classes, they will be asked to obtain them or will not be allowed to train at our facility. All contractors are required to provide payment confirmation prior to attending our classes and need to be able to advise the staff if they are required to receive any device training. Unless otherwise part of the Test Wing Atlantic Agreement, contractors coming through our facility requiring device training will also need a device letter from their command / organization stating their requirement. All students are responsible for knowing their own platform of aircraft they will be flying in and require training on prior to the start of class. Students enrolled in a "All Qual" class will only receive training on their primary aircraft platform unless otherwise indicated via their command or in writing that they require multiple Class / Platform training. Otherwise, students shall not request additional platform training just because they are enrolled in and "All Qual" class.
