Additional Information/FAQ

Q: How do I know if my seat is confirmed?
A: Registration alone does not guarantee you a seat. After you register, please stand by for either a confirmation email or a declination email. Your seat is secured only after you get a confirmation email.

Q: How do I know what course to sign up for?
A: Aviation Survival Training Centers (ASTC) offer 3 types of courses for aircraft-specific training: Aircrew Indoctrination NASTP Training, Aircrew Refresher NASTP Training, and Non-Aircrew NASTP Training.
  • Aircrew Indoctrination NASTP Training is the required initial training for all prospective USN and USMC aeronautically designated personnel, DoD civilian aircrew, contract crew, and USAF and USCG personnel in the Navy pipeline.
  • Aircrew Refresher NASTP Training is for USN or USMC students who have completed Aircrew Indoctrination NASTP Training previously, whether they are currently a civilian or still active duty. For USAF, USCG, or foreign military, please see CNAF M-3710.7 Paragraph 8.4.1 for requirements.
  • Non-Aircrew NASTP Training is for non-aeronautically designated students who require NASTP training prior to flight. This includes individuals on DIFTECH or DIFTEM orders, individuals receiving orientation flights, Project Specialists, and Midshipmen.
Once you know what course you require, you will also need to identify the class of aircraft you will be flying, as each course is specific to an aircraft class.

Q: What class of aircraft do I fly in?
A: See CNAF 3710.7, Paragraph E.5 Figure E-2 on page E-5 for a complete list of T/M/S of aircraft and what class they fall under. In general:
  • Class 1: Ejection seat
  • Class 2: Non-ejection seat, parachute equipped
  • Class 3: Helicopters/tilt rotor
  • Class 4: Pressurized, non-parachute equipped
Q: What are my options if the class I want has no available seats?
A: Please look at other dates that offer the same Course/Class of aircraft for availability. Additionally, all ASTCs offer similar courses so look at the schedule of the 7 other ASTCs to see if they offer what you require. If you require further assistance, please reach out to ASTC staff (information found in the "Point of Contact" tab) and we will help you. The more lead time you give us, the better our chances are of finding an agreeable and cost-effective solution for you.

Q: What time will training end?
A: Each course/class/day varies greatly depending on size of the class, flow of students, and need for remedial training. In short, there is no set time. Please do not schedule anything prior to 1600 on training days without first consulting with ASTC staff.

Q: Can I get my Level A Training done while at the ASTC?
A: No. NASTP courses are separate from Level A Adjunctive Training. Please talk to your command's AMSO to complete your Level A training.
