Naval Medical Center San Diego’s (NMCSD) inaugural VolunTEEN program concluded with a graduation ceremony Aug. 17 with much praise from parents and VolunTEENs alike. VolunTEEN mom Rebecca Schmidgal and VolunTEEN Alivia Schmidgal pose for an environmental photo at the graduation ceremony. VolunTEENs and NMCSD staff gather for a group photo to celebrate the completion of the program. After more than five weeks of participating in this heavily centric STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) program, our VolunTEENS walk away with greater insight, understanding and appreciation of a diverse range of activities that occur at a Medical Treatment Facility (MTF). NMCSD's mission is to prepare service members to deploy in support of operational forces, deliver high quality healthcare services and shape the future of military medicine through education, training and research. NMCSD employs more than 6,000 active duty military personnel, civilians and contractors in Southern California to provide patients with world-class care anytime, anywhere.
