JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO – FORT SAM HOUSTON – (May 8, 2025) – Research scientists Joseph Macaitis (left) and Dr. Daniel Thompson assigned to Naval Medical Research Unit (NAMRU) San Antonio’s Craniofacial Health and Restorative Medicine directorate, apply BoneTape to a tooth during an experiment at the Battlefield Health and Trauma Research Institute. BoneTape, a flexible, resorbable tape intended to stabilize broken bones around the face and head, has been a part of NAMRU San Antonio’s research portfolio since 2024. NAMRU San Antonio, part of Navy Medicine Research & Development, conducts gap-driven combat casualty care, craniofacial, and directed energy research in support of Navy, Marine Corps and joint U.S. warfighter health readiness and lethality while engaged in routine and expeditionary operations.
