OPERATIONAL FORCES SUPPORT

Purpose

The Navy Entomology Center of Excellence’s Operational Forces Support (OFS) Department provides specialized entomology support for Navy and Marine Corps commands worldwide. Its expertise and experience in entomology is provided to afloat and shore commands, as requested, and includes the following: technical assistance visits to ships and shore installations, vector-borne disease risk assessments, emergency disaster assistance, and medical entomology information for deploying units. The Operational Forces Support Department conducts surveys on insect prevalence and plans prevention and control measures against pests of medical or military significance. OFS also cooperates with local, state, and federal health agencies in matters of insect vector and pest infestation identification and control.

Currently, neither mpox testing nor treatment are readily available in a forward deployed operational setting. Units should identify suspected cases, isolate them, and move them for care at an MTF when operationally feasible.
