Chief of Staff, Naval Medical Forces Atlantic

Mr. Smith assumed his current duties as the Chief of Staff, Naval Medical Forces Atlantic, in May 2020.  The Chief of Staff is a member of the regional executive body along with the Commander, Deputy Commander, and Command Master Chief.  Responsibilities include the development, management and execution of the strategic objectives required to man, train, and equip more than 13,000 uniformed personnel in 21 commands across three continents as well as direct day-to-day operations of the headquarters staff.
 
The son of an Air Force Sergeant, Smith grew up in various locations around the world.  He entered the naval service under the Direct Commissioning Program and was sworn in as an Ensign in 1989.  During his military career, he served in a variety of leadership positions, including two command tours, culminating as Chief of Staff, Navy Medicine East, where he served until his retirement in 2019.
 
Smith is a graduate of Duke University and holds a Masters in Health Systems Leadership.
