Master Chief Petty Officer Morais M. McDermott was born in Lysson, ST. Thomas Jamaica WI, and was raised in Jamaica, NY. He enlisted in the United States Navy September 1996 and attended Recruit Training and Seaman ATD School in Great lakes, IL. Master Chief McDermott’s first fleet assignment was in Charleston, SC onboard USS SANTA BARBARA (AE28) where he served as a Deck Seaman. He was promoted to Third Class Petty Officer September 1998 and assigned as part of the decommissioning crew for USS SANTA BARBARA in October 1998. In December 1998, he was assigned to USS GEORGE WASHINGTON (CVN73) in Norfolk, VA and deployed to the Mediterranean and Arabian Gulf as work center supervisor. In March 2000, he was promoted to Second Class Petty Officer. In September 2001, he reported to Navy Recruiting District New York and in April of 2002, he assumed the duties as Recruiter-In–Charge for Navy Recruiting Station. In October 2004, Master Chief McDermott reported to USS KLAKRING (FFG42) as Deck Leading Petty Officer where he was promoted to First Class Petty Officer September 2005. He deployed in support of Joint Warrior and Counter Narcotic Interdiction Operation. In January 2008, he reported to Navy Recruiting District Atlanta where he was assigned to Navy Recruiting Station Lawrenceville and served as Recruiter-In-Charge, and was promoted to Chief Petty Officer in September of 2008. He was then assigned Zone Supervisor for all recruiting efforts for northern Georgia. In February 2010, he reported to USS OSCAR AUSTIN (DDG 79) as Chief Boatswain’s Mate and served as Operations Department Leading Chief Petty Officer and was promoted to Senior Chief in June 2012. He served 46 months onboard and selected for the Command Senior Chief Program in 2013. In March 2015, He reported to FACSFAC VACAPES where he served as the Senior Enlisted Advisor and was promoted to Master Chief. He served as the CMC for USS RAMAGE from January 2017 to June 2020. During his tour on RAMAGE he earned the Battle “E” award and the 2018 and 2019 Retention Excellence Award. He currently serve as the Command Master Chief for NMRTC CAMP LEJEUNE. Master Chief Petty Officer McDermott is a graduate of the CMC/COB Course and the Senior Enlisted Academy (class 185). He holds a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Business and Management. His personal decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (Three Awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (Seven Awards) and a host of other decorations.
