Captain Reginald S. Ewing III

Naval Medical Center Camp Lejeune

Reginald S. Ewing III, MD, MBA is the Commander of Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command Camp Lejeune and the Director of Naval Medical Center Camp Lejeune, assuming command in July 2020. Ewing most recently served as the Fleet Surgeon for U.S. Second Fleet and as an Adolescent Medicine and Pediatric physician. Prior to that tour of duty, he was stationed at Naval Health Clinic Cherry Point, NC, where he served as the Executive Officer from July 2017 to May 2019. He was responsible for the day to day operations and the oversight and execution of a $32M budget. In addition to his duties, he continued to maintain his clinical skills in the pediatric clinic and is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics for the School of Medicine at Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. During his tour at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, VA he served as the Director for Medical Services (DMS) from July 2014 to July 2017. He was responsible for a staff of over 900 personnel, 10 departments and an operating budget exceeding $16M. While stationed at U.S. Naval Hospital, Naples, Italy, (2011-2014) he served as Director for Medical Services and Medical Director for the Educational and Developmental Intervention Services program (EDIS). During his tour at Navy Medicine East / Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, VA (2010-2011), Ewing served as Executive Assistant for RADM Alton Stocks, Commander NME / NMCP. Ewing was stationed at the U.S. Naval Academy (2006-2010), where he served both as Brigade Medical Officer and Director of Health Services, having over-sight responsibilities for 5 departments, a staff of 80 personnel and budget of $1.4M. He was a member of the Executive Steering Committee, Executive Committee of the Medical Staff and Board of Directors. He was Director of the Independent Duty Corpsman program for NHCL Annapolis and its 4 Branch Clinics, served as the Medical Advisor to the U.S. Naval Academy Admissions Board and was a member of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee. CAPT Ewing graduated from the University of Rochester, School of Medicine in 1997. After a Pediatric internship at Naval Medical Center San Diego, he served 2 years as the General Medical Officer onboard USS GERMANTOWN (LSD-42) stationed in Sasebo, Japan. He returned to complete his Pediatric residency at Naval Medical Center San Diego in 2003 and continued his medical education, completing a fellowship in Adolescent Medicine at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center (2003-2006) and obtained his MBA from Xavier University during that time. CAPT Ewing is a Surface Warfare Medical Officer. His awards and personal decorations include: Meritorious Service Medal (three awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal and other unit and personal ribbons. CAPT Ewing is active in the community volunteering for the Tide Swimming Club, the Ocean Lakes Math and Science Academy and enjoys cycling and fishing.
