PURPOSE

To promulgate the mission, vision, guiding principles, and core values of SWMI under the mission established by higher authority.

SCOPE

The Surface Warfare Medical Institute (SWMI) is a detachment of Navy Medicine Operational Training Center (NMOTC). It was established April 3, 1998 in San Diego, CA at the Naval Submarine Base, Point Loma. SWMI moved to NSHS San Diego, May 2008. Between 1993 and 1995, the COMNAVSURPAC and COMNAVSURFLANT Force Medical Officers recognized the need to standardize and upgrade the training of the General Medical Officer assigned to the Fleet. The staff at SWMI are a diverse collection of highly qualified professionals and subject matter experts; their qualifications and experiences reflect a broad range of training resulting in various curriculum programs.

MISSION

Training and Developing Surface Warfare, Drug and Alcohol Counselor, and Physician Assistant professionals to ensure optimal warfighter readiness, resilience, and sustainability.

VISION

Deliver operationally capable independent medical professionals through premier training to support fleet forces, fleet marine forces, and joint forces mission.

COE is the institutional accrediting body for the NMFSC AOR and is available for students and staff who have
submitted issues through normal grievance channels but feel that their grievance is still unresolved.
