Mission Statement

NEPMU-2's education and training mission is to provide fleet and staff training, leadership, and management, to ensure that required professional certificates for occupational, environmental and preventive medicine professionals throughout the Navy and Marine Corps are met. We provide consultation services to subject matter experts (SMEs), coordinate course development and evaluation, provide mobile training team technical expertise, and coordinate staff development and training.

Services
·         Food Safety Managers/Supervisors. This course includes basic food microbiology, causes and prevention of food-borne illnesses, sanitary standards; health standards for food service personnel, food inspection and storage, and pest control. Valid for 5 years.
·         BUMED Shipboard Pest Management. Course includes: Responsibilities for pest control aboard Naval vessels; preparation for pesticide treatment, pesticide and safety, respiratory control program, biology, survey and control of cockroaches, stored products pests, rodents, bedbugs, lice, flies, and mosquitoes. Valid for 4 years
·         DoD Pesticide Applicator Certification Program (2-Week Refresher). To develop general competencies in candidate Department of Defense pesticide applicator licensees, enabling them to demonstrate a practical knowledge of the principles and practices of pest control and safe use of pesticides. Valid for 3 years.
·         DoD Pest Management Recertification (3-day Course). To provide review training, 'best practices' and updated information, equipment and techniques leading to renewal of certification in DoD Pesticide Applicator 8, Public Health Pest Control. (Ensure you have an active DoD Category 8 Certification Number.) Must have a current Category 8 certificate. Certifies for 3 years.
·         BUMED Ship Sanitation Certificate Program (SSCP). Provide instruction in the Navy Ship Sanitation Certificate Program, shipboard organization, and the knowledge and skills to conduct Shipboard Sanitation Certification inspections and issue appropriate Ship Sanitation Certificates.
·         Hearing Conservation Certification. Train medical personnel to establish and maintain an effective hearing conservation program and provide audiological testing on those in the program.
·         Laboratory Identification of Malaria. Provide instruction in the performance of malaria laboratory testing, and species identification. Topics include collection of blood specimens, preparation of slices for staining, staining procedures, and interpretation of blood smears.

Currently, neither mpox testing nor treatment are readily available in a forward deployed operational setting. Units should identify suspected cases, isolate them, and move them for care at an MTF when operationally feasible.
