 APRIL - SEXUAL HEALTH

Sexual health is a state of well-being that involves physical, emotional, mental, social, and spiritual dimensions, and is based on a positive, equitable, and respectful approach to sexuality, relationships, and reproduction that is free of coercion, fear, discrimination, stigma, shame, and violence.  The resources in this toolbox focus on the prevention of unplanned pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections, including HIV.

Despite the fact that HIV, chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis and unplanned pregnancies are preventable, at least 9982 active duty sailors and marines were diagnosed with chlamydia, gonorrhea or syphilis in 2018 [1] another active duty sailor or marine is diagnosed with HIV every 5 days [2], and 45% of enlisted female sailors say her last pregnancy while in the Navy was unplanned [3]

Clinicians

Clinical guidance, including recognition, management and clinical isolation guidance are generally covered by CDC: CDC Clinical Overview

Clinical guidance for MTFs can be found in the DHA Mpox Guidance Update_5Sept2024

Currently, neither mpox testing nor treatment are readily available in a forward deployed operational setting. Units should identify suspected cases, isolate them, and move them for care at an MTF when operationally feasible.
