Heart disease remains the number one killer of both men and women in the United States.1 While heart disease is often viewed as something to worry about when you get older, an estimated six in 10 preventable heart disease and stroke deaths happen to people under age 65.2 That is OVER HALF! The key risk factors for heart disease are high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and smoking. The good news is that heart health can be improved at any age by eating a nutritious diet, exercising most days of the week, maintaining a healthy weight, and quitting tobacco. This toolbox contains resources to help find tips and strategies that have proven effective. Fortunately, these same risk reduction behaviors pertain to nearly all chronic conditions. Remember, it’s never too EARLY to start protecting heart health!
