Comprised of three departments that conduct innovative and expeditionary Research, Development, Test, and Evaluation (RDT&E) and maintains the following core capabilities: small and large animal models for evaluating hemorrhage and hemorrhagic shock, immunology assays including flow cytometry, molecular biology and immunology-based assay development, test and evaluation of hemorrhage control agents and resuscitative agents, including in vitro and in vivo evaluation, and biosensor development for detection of microbial agents and biomarkers.
Expeditionary and Trauma Medicine Department: conducts research focused on the protection, resuscitation, and stabilization of combat casualties at front-line points of care in the combat theater.
Cellular and Immune Based Adjuncts for Casualty Care Department: conducts research on stem cell and immune based therapeutics intended to improve war fighter outcomes and survival.
Biomedical Systems Engineering and Evaluation Department: applies engineering principles and design concepts to develop and evaluate medical devices, treatments, and diagnostic tools used in military medicine.
