HAZARDOUS MATERIALS INFORMATION RESOURCE SYSTEM (HMIRS)

Navy and Marine Corps Public Health Center (NMCPHC) Industrial Hygiene Department helps manage and coordinate the Navy and Marine Corps participation in the Department of Defense (DOD) Hazardous Materials Information Resource System (HMIRS). HMIRS is the DOD repository for Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and related information on hazardous materials and currently contains over 550,000 product records. HMIRS is available online at https://dlahng.hmms.dla.mil/HMMS_Web_JSF/index.xhtml. The HMIRS NexGen Quick Guide can assist with navigating through HMIRS.

Access to HMIRS is controlled by the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) through the use of their Account Management and Provisioning System (AMPS). Requests for access to HMIRS must be made online using the AMPS website at https://amps.dla.mil. Once registered, access control at DLA will provide you with a User ID and Password which can be used for initial access to HMIRS, after the initial access, your CAC will be used for future access. Contact the DLA access control team at dlaenterprisehelpdesk@dla.mil if you need assistance with AMPS or with HMIRS access. The HMIRS Role Request External Users Guide can assist in completing the AMPS request online.

The Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP) produces a tailored version on the DOD HMIRS on a CD-ROM/DVD for use by ships and deployed units without reliable internet connectivity. For information concerning the Navy tailored HMIRS CD-ROM/DVD, contact NAVSUP-Weapons Systems Support Command (WSS) at wraps.prime.fct@navy.mil.

HMIRS is populated and maintained based on information and SDS provided by Navy and Marine Corps field activities. The primary means of submitting SDS for entry into HMIRS is by submitting a request, sometimes called a data package, to NAVSUP-WSS through the NAVSUP WSS HAZMAT DATA APP.  Alternatively, SDS and other information can be submitted directly to NMCPHC for entry into HMIRS via the following methods:
