NMCPHC was tasked by BUMED to support Navy Medicine efforts in developing a comprehensive Pandemic Influenza Plan that supports DON, DOD, and DHHS plans. A BUMED Integrated Process Team was established to identify key tasks and command responsibilities for carrying out those tasks. NMCPHC was responsible for supporting several surveillance-related tasks including facilitation of proper and timely case reporting, monitoring of trends, and tracking effectiveness of control measures.
NMCPHC is responsible for assessing existing electronic data streams, transmitted by Health Level 7 messages, for use in influenza surveillance in the Department of Navy. Additionally, support for DOD-wide surveillance is also provided to ensure visibility of treatment facility disease experience. The surveillance includes, but is not limited to, the use of laboratory results, radiology reports, and pharmacy transactions occurring in the direct care military system.
Note: Data from NH Oak Harbor, Bremerton, Twentynine Palms, Camp Pendleton, and Lemoore; NBHC China Lake, Fallon, and Port Hueneme; ACH Weed-Irwin; AMC Madigan; AHC Monterey and Fairchild; BMC Bridgeport; Mt. Home and Travis AFB are not captured due to transition to MHS GENESIS.
