MULTI-DRUG RESISTANT ORGANISMS
Multi-drug resistant organisms (MDROs) are microorganisms that are resistant to one or more classes of antimicrobial agents. MDROs are a significant health risk and contribute to increased length of stays in healthcare facilities, worse clinical outcomes, and increased healthcare associated costs.
The Hospital Associated Infections and Patient Safety Clinical Epidemiology Division within the EpiData Center Department uses the Navy Antimicrobial Surveillance System (NASS) to identify and monitor MDROs from Health Level 7 data enterprise wide. This capability provides information on the burden of MDRO in support of infection control efforts and patient safety.
