Clinic Management Course provides clinical teams and staff the skills, knowledge and tools necessary to successfully integrate MHS and BUMED Strategic Goals into their daily practices as a high reliability organization (HRO) in a variety of health care settings. 
 

Target Audience

This course was developed around a "team" concept. As you determine your nominations please keep this in mind. Teams are defined as 3 to 4 members who are the leaders and decision makers within the clinic. Minimum eligibility requires (1) Provider, preferably the Department Head or Senior Medical Officer in the clinic, (2) Division Officer/Clinic or Business Manager/Senior Nurse, (3) SEL/LCPO/LPO/ALPO, (4) Clinic/Administrative support personnel.
 
 

Course Data

  • Length: 3.5 days
  • Classes/yr: 9-10  
  • Seats available: 30-50 per course (depending on classroom size)
Teams of 3-4 members from various outpatient clinics are selected for each course.

Selection of teams: Parent Commands and their respective leadership determine those clinic teams that will attend in order to improve clinic efficiencies, template management, access to care, medical homeport implementation and overall process improvement.  (Note: personnel should have 1 year remaining in current clinical position) The 3-4 member team should be drawn from the same clinic, from the following positions:
  • Credentialed Provider (usually MD or DO; Dept Head or Senior Medical Officer)
  • Division Officer/ Business Manager / Clinic Manager / Senior Nursing Officer
  • Senior Enlisted Leader / Leading Chief Petty Officer / Leading Petty Officer / Assistant Leading Petty Officer
  • Clinic/Admin support personnel

Accreditation Statement The Naval Medical Leader & Professional Development Command, (NML&PDC), Continuing Medical Education (CME) Department, Bethesda, Maryland is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for Physicians.  NML&PDC designates this live activity for a maximum of 25 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™.  Physicians should only claim credits commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.


Funding/Billeting

NML&PDC provides full funding for selected clinic teams outside of local commuting area. The team will be authorized one rental car for commuting to and from the airport and daily to the course. It is your responsibility to work with your command's TAD office to book your flights and lodging. Accounting data is sent to the TAD representative that is noted on the nomination form and to the students. NML&PDC is not authorized to fund individuals who are auditing the course.  Contractors may not be funded for TAD by NML&PDC; travel for contractors must be provided for under contract provisions.

Teams within local commuting area of host command must submit nominations to host command SEAT office for consideration.  Based on funding availability and classroom size, 2-3 teams will be selected from outside of the host command for attendance.  These selected teams will be included in host command student roster and notified by email from Course Director.
