U.S. Navy Physicians and Department of Defense military and civilian physicians practice in a complex health care environment ranging from sophisticated tertiary care facilities to minimum capability operational units. The purpose of the Naval Medical Leader & Professional Development Command (NMLPDC) Command is to facilitate the continuous learning process that keeps physicians professionally current despite variability in access to contemporary technologies and scientific arenas. The NMLPDC, Continuing Medical Education (CME) Department, Bethesda, Maryland is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide CME for physicians. The NMLPDC Office of CME sponsors activities that are designed to change competence and/or performance and/or patient outcomes. The NMLPDC Office of CME staff works cooperatively with CME customers before, during and after the CME activity, maintaining close oversight to ensure compliance with NMLPDC and ACCME guidelines regarding the planning, implementation and impact/outcome assessment of each activity.
