MEDICAL CORPS FUNDING MOC and Exam Funding
Certification Examinations and Maintenance of Certification (MOC) Fees: In accordance with BUMEDINST 1500.20A, the Navy Medical Leader and Professional Development Command (NMLPDC) may provide funding to Medical Corps Officers for certification examinations, recertification examinations, MOC examination and MOC fees. Only funding requests for Medical Specialty Board Examinations approved by the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) or the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) are authorized to be considered for funding.

Travel fees associated with board examinations will only be authorized and reimbursed by NMLPDC if requested in advance. All efforts must be made by the requesting member to submit funding requests to NMLPDC at LEAST 6 WEEKS in advance of the travel start date. Travel fee reimbursement for requests received after the travel has occurred will not be supported. Examinations must be taken at the closest available testing center or virtually if applicable. Members requesting certification funding must remain in active service for a period of one year following their examination date. NMLPDC will not authorize funding for MOCs paid or exams taken in prior fiscal years.

NON BSO-18 Conference Funding
Per BUMEDINST 5050.6, Naval Medical Leader and Professional Development Command (NMLPDC) may provide funding for Medical Corps Officers in a Non-BSO18 status to attend conferences in order to maintain certification. Funding will only be provided when the member's command does not have funds available. Members may only be funded for one (1) Continuing Medical Education (CME) event per fiscal year, from either their command or NMLPDC. The conference/course must support the current scope of the member's medical practice. Members requesting funding from NMLPDC must have at least one year of active-duty service following the conference. Priority Use of Funds: Commands with TAD approval authority for CE (Continuing Education) or PUT (Professional Update Training) should prioritize use of funds by all Corps within the command. Priorities will include the following: (1) CE directly related to wartime readiness requirements, such as courses or meetings emphasizing military health care or emergency, trauma, or critical care clinical topics. (2) CE to correct performance deficiencies identified during quality assurance reviews. (3) Meetings at which the traveler will present a scientific paper or seminar that will enhance the status of a military program. (4) CE or PUT to maintain state-of-the-art health care practice by faculty or Navy education and training programs. (5) CE for certification, licensure, or credentialing and privileging. (6) CE or PUT to maintain state-of-the-art health care practice by health care providers. Note: Navy Medicine (Non BSO-18) personnel desiring to attend a conference must review the list of Conferences Requiring BUMED Approval prior to initiating a travel request. If the conference is on the list, the attendee is required to contact the responsible Specialty Leader and/or the conference submission point of contact to request a quota. Funding requests should be submitted to the CME funding group email at usn.bethesda.navmedleadprodevcmd.mbx.nmlpdc-cme-funding@health.mil at least six (6) weeks prior to the member's travel.
