HMCM (SW/AW/FMF/EXW/IW) Phillip “JG” Jean-Gilles
HMCM Jean-Gilles enlisted in the Navy on June 9, 1999. His initial training consisted of Recruit Training Command and Hospital Corpsman “A” School, Great Lakes, IL with follow on orders to Field Medical Service School, Camp Lejeune, NC. His first assignment was at the Washington Navy Yard branch Medical Clinic, serving as Immunization and Allergy Technician and Emergency Medical Technician where he advanced to Petty Officer Third Class. He also served as corpsman for the 8th & I Marines on several training operations.
In March 2002, He attended Neuropsychiatric Technician School earning the 8485 NEC at Fort Sam Houston, Texas where upon graduation he was advanced to Petty Officer Second Class and subsequently transferred to Naval Hospital Great Lakes, IL. While assigned to Naval Hospital Great Lakes, IL. He served as ward Corpsman. During his tour in Great Lakes, he deployed to Joint Task Force Guantanamo Bay, Cuba; 1st Battalion 6th Marines to Fallujah, Iraq; and Expeditionary Medical Facility, Camp Arifjan Kuwait as an individual Augmentee. While deployed 1st Battalion 6th Marines he earned his Enlisted Fleet Marine Force Warfare Specialist (EFMFWS) pin.
In May of 2007 he transferred to Naval Hospital Yokosuka, Japan where he advanced to Petty Officer First Class and was assigned as Leading Petty Officer, Behavioral Services. In August 2008 he deployed with Regimental Combat Team 5, 1st Marine Division where he served as Leading Petty Officer of the Shock Trauma Platoon and EFMFSW Coordinator. In August 2009, upon his return from deployment, he transferred to Global Service Assignment orders to ECRC Norfolk Forward, Landstuhl Regional Medical Center where he served as the LPO for the Inpatient Unit and Command Career Counselor.  In March 2010 he reported to Naval Hospital Rota Spain where he served as the Directorate of Medical Services Leading Petty Officer. During his tour in Rota, he won Sailor of the Year for the command, base and region. In 2012 he deployed to Afghanistan as part of the Navy Mobile Care Team 6, Bagram Airfield and was selected to the rank of Chief Petty Officer. During his deployment he earned his Enlisted Expeditionary Warfare and Information Warfare Specialist pin.  In 2013 he reported to his next assignment, 1st Medical Battalion, 1st Medical Logistics Group, Cam Pendleton CA. serving as the Senior Enlisted Leader for Charlie Surgical Company and Acting Command Master Chief. Upon completion of his tour, he was selected to Senior Chief. In 2016 he reported to Navy Medicine Professional Development Center serving as LCPO for Directorate for Administration and Senior Enlisted Leader for Directorate for Academics. Subsequently he was selected to be the Executive Medical Department Enlisted Course (EMDEC) Director.
In 2019 he was chosen to deploy to Kandahar Afghanistan as the Command Senior Chief for the NATO Role 3. Upon his return he curtailed his shore duty and received orders to the USS Gerald R. Ford as the Medical DLCPO. During his tour he earned his Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist and Surface Warfare Specialist pin. In 2022 he was selected to Master Chief and transferred to Naval Medical Research Center as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader.
Master Chief Jean-Gilles is a graduate of the Senior Enlisted Academy and holds an Associates of Arts in Liberal Arts from Purdue University. His personal awards include Navy Commendation Medal (7 awards) Army Commendation Medal (2 awards), Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy Achievement Medal (4), Combat Action Ribbon, and numerous unit and campaign awards.
