RISK ASSESSMENT

Purpose

NMCFHPC provides worldwide technical assistance to the Navy, Marine Corps, and other DOD activities through excellence in risk assessment. Our trained professionals assess potential adverse health effects caused by exposure to hazardous substances in the environment by conducting quick response risk assessments and consultations to address immediate concerns of select chemicals, as well as comprehensive, installation-wide risk assessments.

Our risk assessment services include the following:

  • Comprehensive human health risk assessments or consults that focus on health, toxicology, safety, and environmental issues, including Tier 2 assessments that incorporate those site-specific characteristics that significantly alter estimated risks
  • Reviews of risk assessments, technical investigations and decision documents prepared by contractors
  • Review of risk assessment regulatory comments and suggested responses
  • Risk analysis consultations regarding risk positions and regulatory and other government agencies' approaches
  • Negotiation support to favorably achieve regulatory and public acceptance
  • Assistance on indoor air vapor intrusion issues related to environmental contaminants
  • Assistance with environmental risk assessment of ranges
  • Assistance with Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) issues related to environmental risk assessments

Currently, neither mpox testing nor treatment are readily available in a forward deployed operational setting. Units should identify suspected cases, isolate them, and move them for care at an MTF when operationally feasible.
